Music lessons, reimagined.

AN unique and collaborative approach to helping your child learn, grow, and be their best.

More than anything, I want your child to succeed.

I want your son or daughter to feel motivated, supported, and inspired – so that they can confidently grow in their music education and self-development. I also want them to have fun, because smiles and laughter go a long way in keeping kids engaged!

While traditional music lessons can feel dry and robotic, my approach is to liven things up and cater my teaching to your child’s playing level, unique strengths, and style of learning. Depending on your child’s experience, they’ll fit in one of the four levels below. Note that as the complexity of the learning material increases, so does the time investment.

More Than Just Music Lessons

Learning How To Play The Harp

Answers to your frequently asked questions:

Are your music lessons in person or online?

Due to the pandemic, I currently offer both in-person and virtual lessons. Prior to the pandemic and once we reach a new normal, lessons will be held in person only. I find that students are much more engaged and motivated through in-person lessons. It also allows for more hands-on, face-to-face interaction.

Where do you conduct your in-person music lessons?

I teach from my home studio, located near Thornecliffe Park and the Space & Aviation Museum in Ottawa, Ontario.

How many students do you take at a time?

That depends on the level of each student. For example, Advanced level classes take longer than Beginner classes, so I’m unable to accommodate as many of them. Not only is it dependent on time, but I also try to maintain a balance of age and skill level within the studio. Generally, I don’t teach more than 25 students at a time. Any interested students beyond this number are placed on a waiting list.

How old are your students?

I teach children ranging in age from five to 18 years old.

How much do your harp lessons cost?

This varies based on class level (Beginner, Junior, Intermediate, and Advanced) since the program and time commitment differs for each. Each child typically receives 18 lessons per term, with two terms per year (for a total of 36 lessons). We can discuss your child’s unique needs and the investment level that feels right for you. How do I know if my child would make a great harp student?

It seems obvious, but a love of music is most important! Your child should also be open to trying new things and love a good challenge. My students tend to be responsible and fairly independent with their school work and other activities. They understand and are ready for the daily commitment of practicing the harp. They also seek a creative outlet that allows them to meet others with similar interests.

How do I know if I would make a great music parent?

The fact that you’re here is a great start! It shows that you understand the value that only music study can provide. You’re also looking for an extra-curricular activity to help your child grow creatively and independently. The parents I work with are also mentally, emotionally, and financially invested in their child's harp study.

Can you remind me why I should choose you and Ottawa Harp Academy for my child’s music lessons?

Absolutely! Aside from my professional experience and credentials, I offer a more modern approach to music lessons. Essentially, I believe that the “old-school” way of music education was very isolating for kids. They would show up for their weekly sessions (which they usually dreaded), go home, practice (or not!) on their own, and then return for another isolated session. Instead, I aim to build community and make things more fun by getting students to work together and support each other.

This fun, creative, and collaborative learning environment develops extremely strong, proficient musicians who continually amaze me with their achievements!
